lucas and i headed off to california two weeks ago to attend my 10-year high school reunion and, as a bonus, to visit our family and friends. it was lucas' first experience flying and i was quite worried, especially since i flew alone with him the first leg. but, praise God, he did just fine. in fact, he flirted with the other passengers on the plane! here are some pictures of lucas' first "airborne" adventure, along with some photos of the time we spent with family in california.

lucas laying on his aunty vicky at 1 week old and at 6 months old...can you see the difference?
lucas' two bottom teeth are fully in and he has become quite the good eater. he's also become a handful. though he's not "crawling" yet (still only does the army crawl), he can scoot around a room faster than i can catch up with him. he's also found the power outlets, so we made sure to cover them all. amazing how much they develop in just one month!
we are proud to announce that lucas is sleeping through the night...yay! he has been doing it successfully for over a week now, so we are finally catching up on the much needed rest that we've been lacking.
the sweetest thing happened today. lucas reached out his arms to us for us to hold him!!! the first time it happened, a friend was holding lucas while he was fussing and, as i walked closer to him, he turned his body towards me and extended his arms to ask me to hold him. my heart melted! :) of course, we tested it out a few more times when allan got home to make sure it wasn't just a fluke. it wasn't. :P
lucas turned 6 months old over the weekend! it's hard to believe six months have gone by. we had another well-check visit at the doctor's office today and lucas had to endure four immunizations...again. he was such a little trooper.
lucas has had a busy month! he loves to play in his exersaucer; he doesn't like to sleep; he's become very interested in food; he's welcomed a new friend into the world; he likes to take walks in the evening; he's sitting up much better than last month; and he's propping himself higher off of the ground, which must mean he's getting ready to crawl! oh, and we can feel his bottom two teeth...they're finally coming in!
i'll spare you all from having to look at what i'm talking about, but this morning i experienced the aftermath of yesterday's alligator pear. all i have to say is, "YUCK!" and, i hear that this is only the beginning. :P

lucas and his friend, carter, after their walk this morning
for those new parents out there, we have read that avocados (known in the past as alligator pears, vegetable butter, or butter pears) are an excellent source of unsaturated fatty acids, or essential fatty acids (EFAs), which are vital for a baby’s brain development. so, we decided to feed some to lucas tonight, hoping that he would take well to it. check out his reaction!
check out our little guy eating rice cereal in his high chair tonight! he took his first bite of rice cereal last week (august 3) and continues to like it. we're hoping he'll be as good about his carrots and peas! :9
a friend of ours gave us a really good idea on how to capture lucas growing bigger. he told us to take a stuffed animal and take a picture of lucas with it every month so that we can see lucas' growth in proportion to the size of the stuffed animal. isn't that a great idea? so, we got lucas a teddy and named him theophilus. we call him theo for short.
lucas got his hair trimmed for the first time today. his stylist was none other than moi - his mommy dearest. i was nervous to do it at first because i only had pointy scissors. allan held lucas while i snipped away. i didn't take anything off the top or back, just the sides. i think it turned out pretty well. most importantly, lucas escaped without any nicks. whew. :P
