lucas' first christmas

lucas celebrated his first christmas with lots of family...what a special treat. he had a blast opening presents and playing with all of his new toys. one of his favorites was the popcorn walker from grandma and grandpa tuan. lucas loves walking around the house with it. (in fact, he loves walking around the house in general. i just don't have the energy to do it as often as he likes!) he also snuck in a quick pic with his buddy, carter...they were twins! :P

tiiiiimber!

we are so excited to celebrate christmas in our new home this year! this weekend we went with our friends to a tree farm to pick out our christmas tree. we had a blast! it was the first time we actually chopped down our own tree. we hunted for awhile and ended up with the perfect tree for our family of three. oh, and we found the perfect little "charlie brown" tree for lucas and carter, too! don't worry, we didn't chop the little one down...it still has quite a bit of growing to do. maybe we'll find it again in a few years; after it's reached its full potential. :)

gobble-gobble

we bid farewell to the cold and headed down to sunny los angeles to celebrate thanksgiving with our family this year. we had a great time! lucas was spoiled, of course, and allan and i were treated to much undeserved pampering ourselves. :) one of the most exciting things we got to do was take lucas swimming for the first time! he was scared at first (well, we went for a night swim so it was dark out so you really can't blame him) but he warmed up to it the second day and started splashing around in no time. also, lucas turned 9 months old during our trip! he learned how to waive hello and goodbye...smarty-pants. his new favorite toy is the ball. he loves chasing it around a room! i'm grateful to it because it keeps lucas occupied long enough for me to grab a bite to eat...little stinker.

sitting handsomely

lucas sat up all by himself for the first time today! it all began when he started fussing in the middle of the night and wouldn't settle down. i decided to pull him into bed with us - i was sooo tired. all of a sudden, he sat up by himself in bed. we thought we were seeing things (it was 2 o'clock in the morning, afterall!) until i saw him do it again in the morning, this time in broad daylight. he was lying on his tummy on our kitchen floor when all of a sudden i found him in a sitting position. i was so proud!

proverbs 22:6

"train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." proverbs 22:6

allan and i dedicated lucas tonight! we declared before others that lucas is given over to the Lord. our promise to God, with His help, is to teach scripture to lucas daily, pray with him regularly, and model a life of holy living that is pleasing to God. our desire is for lucas to grow up to love and follow the Lord; for him to make a personal commitment to Jesus Christ. it was a very special day for three of us. many of our friends also dedicated their children tonight, which made the evening extra special! :0)

eight months old

our little boy is eight months old today! he weighs about 17.5 pounds and loves to say "mama" and "baba" (though we're not sure he understands what they mean). he's also teething again - this time it's his top two front teeth. he also loves to laugh, especially when he sees his baba.

say cheese!

i was on the computer tonight checking e-mail and whatnot when i found this on my desktop. allan must have used our webcam to take a snapshot of himself and lucas while they were chatting with my parents. silly, but cute. :P

some pumpkin pickin' and some cake eatin'

lucas had an action-packed day today. it started out with some one-on-one time with daddy (a trip to wal-mart...ha!). then, all three of us headed out with our friends to the local pumpkin patch to pick out a few good pumpkins. we had a GREAT time. allan and i enjoyed some tasty tamales while lucas dined on some macaroni and beef (yum!). after lunch, we took a bumpy hay ride out to the pumpkin patch. lucas was a great help in picking out the 5...yes, FIVE...pumpkins we brought home. after loading up all of our pumpkins, we headed off to our last activity of the day...our little friend bishan's 1st birthday party. there, we feasted on some more delicious food (chinese this time) and watched bishan carry out a traditional chinese game played during a child's 1st birthday. the game involves laying out an assortment of items, ranging from a drill, to a keyboard, to a chess board, to a pair of swim goggles, and having the birthday boy or girl go to the item of his or her choosing. the item that they choose represents the profession they will engage in. bishan chose the keyboard, representing a career in computer science! another little boy, eddie, really liked the swim goggles. as for lucas, he set his sights on the calculator. we'll have to wait and see!
