big brother to the rescue

one of the first questions we get asked when our friends meet emma for the first time is how lucas is doing with the new baby. our answer? he's doing great! lucas is constantly asking, "i na-na hold her," which translates into, "i want to hold her." another favorite and constant request of his is, "i na-na kiss her." (so adorable!) so, as parents, we are thrilled and incredibly blessed to have lucas love his little sister so much.

(here's a quick story...)

the other day, as allan and i were finishing up our dinner, emma was laying on the floor doing some tummy-time. lucas was laying on the floor next to emma, just observing her and giving her kisses. we were keeping a close watch on lucas to make sure he wouldn't crush emma when we heard emma make some kind of a burp-sounding noise. allan and i looked over at emma to see if she was okay. before we had a chance to check her out, lucas had jumped up, ran into emma's room, and came out with a kleenex in his hand. the next thing we knew, lucas was wiping up emma's spit-up. what a great big brother, huh? we were so proud of our little boy for taking such great care of his baby sister. :)

honoring grandpa

we celebrated my dad's birthday while he was here visiting lucas and emma. it was very low-key, but i think it was special because it's been years since i've had the chance to celebrate my dad's birthday with him. i'm sure that having lucas and emma here also made it extra special for him. :) if only my sister could have been here, too...maybe next year!

and then there were four...

we have the great pleasure of welcoming emma grace tuan into our family! God has blessed us with a healthy baby girl and we can't help but share the good news. here are some early pictures...

emma grace arrived at 6:35 pm on wednesday, april 4, 2007. she was 6 pounds 11 ounces and 20 inches long...good things come in small packages.

here's mom during labor.
she was a champ...and beautiful.

mom's contractions are the peaks in the white trace
in the middle of the screen. emma's heart
rate is in green above mom's trace.

baby feet...emma had ten fingers
and ten toes. phew!

here's our precious girl. one of the few moments she
opened her eyes. she's ridin' high with some sweet-ease
(basically sugar water) and a binky.

my two girls resting after a long night of eating
(e.g., nursing) and not really sleeping.

she slept a lot during the first twenty-four hours.

wave goodbye to the hospital! we're on our way home!
by the way, must give myself props...the nurse that discharged us
said that my car seat installation was one of the best she's ever seen.
can't be too safe with our gift from God.

well, i'm off to sleep...hopefully.
