our crazy kids

i noticed that it's been awhile since i posted pictures of lucas and emma, so here is a spattering of some that i took recently of the two of them running amok at home. emma is at the stage where she loves to do whatever lucas is doing. it's really cute, but sad sometimes because she doesn't realize that she's not old enough to do the same things that big brother is doing. it's amazing how much trouble the two of them can get into together (when i'm not doing my job of keeping tabs on them, i guess). one of their favorite activities is to dance on the coffee table. actually, emma simply loves to dance. anytime she hears any sort of tune, she stomps her feet and shakes her arms!

one last peek

yesterday, i had what i think was my last pregnancy ultrasound ever. that also means i won't get another peek at our babiest girl until the day she arrives. it just makes me that much more excited to meet her. i am 27 weeks and 6 days pregnant today, so i'm coming along. things are going well with the pregnancy. i haven't experienced swelling yet, which is a good thing. but looking back at my history, it should be appearing within the next few weeks. i am NOT looking forward to it. especially with the weather getting hotter as summer progresses. i have to tell myself that it's all worth it because i see how sweet our baby looks already in the ultrasounds. she has very big/full lips...allan and i are hoping they aren't going to be too big. :) she also looks more like lucas than emma, based on their ultrasound pictures. can't wait to find out!

at my appointment, i found out that i gained about 1 pound (whew), i measured 28 inches for the fundal height (right on), the baby's heart rate was 154 bpm (all good), and she's head down already (let's keep our fingers crossed!). i was given my lab slip to take the jelly bean (glucose) test to see if i have gestational diabetes. i love this part because i am being required to eat 25 jelly bellies, yum!

a day for dad

we celebrated father's day this year by putting allan to work! while allan was busy painting (i helped with this part) and cutting beadboard, lucas and emma played in the garage alongside him. they had a great time and i'm looking forward to wainscoting in our dining room! allan is the best husband and dad for me and the kids! lucas made a card for allan this year. he told me that he wanted to draw a picture of spiderman for his dad. he also informed me that spiderman was red and blue. the end result was a really creative rendition of spiderman. :) do you see lucas' spiderman on the card? (hint: he's on the left side; there are two of him.)

a plug for redbox

allan and i came upon this cool thing called redbox a few months ago and we LOVE it! basically, it's a vending machine for movies. there are two great things about it: 1) it only costs $1 a day per movie and 2) you can return the movie to any redbox location! how great is that?!

so this post has nothing to do with my pregnancy or the kids, except for the fact that with kids we can't afford to go out to movies anymore...SO redbox is a great option for us. in other words:

babysitter = $25
movie = $20
experience = unaffordable

an update

so i started feeling some tightening and cramping in my belly last wednesday (may 28) and wasn't sure if they were really braxton hicks contractions. it seemed a little too early for them. well, after a week of feeling the same tightening and cramping off and on, i'm pretty sure they are braxton hicks. i didn't do a good job of tracking my development when i was pregnant with emma, so i don't know when i started having them with her. and, i looked back and couldn't find the information for lucas either. tsk tsk. oh well.

lucas is getting to be more of a big boy each day. he started sleeping without his guard rail on his bed. he hasn't fallen off yet, so that's a good thing. he asked us to take it off of his bed about a week ago (may 30). we were hesitant to do it, but we figured it would be good training for him to sleep in the bunk beds in our trailer. we'll see if our logic works out! i've been doing more lessons with him out of his math workbook. he really enjoys it and catches on really quick. we also confirmed that he has an amazing memory. we bought him the spiderman memory game and he beats us most of the time!

emma has become quite attached to me. she won't let me put her down when she wakes up from her afternoon nap. it's sweet. she is a little climber and loves to climb up on the stool in the bathroom to play at the sink. she loves to run her little hands underneath the water...it's so cute! she loves climbing so much that she is almost able to get herself into the tub. if only she was about an inch taller! then i'd really be in trouble, i guess. she recently learned to say, "ta-da!" from lucas. it's really cute when she says it because she throws her hands and arms up as she's saying it to really give it the full effect.

so, that's the update...
